You may prefer to keep cool and indulge in Kailua. Wake up late, go to the beach, take a swim, come back for lunch at the Villa, take a shower in the open air, then relax in a chaise lounge in the yard and watch the ocean while sipping a cool drink. In the evening, try one of the many friendly restaurants in Kailua (local or international food such as Thai, Chinese, Italian, Mexican...).
Ready for a little more action? Kailua Beach is great for jogging. How about renting a canoe to go and visit the Mokulua Islands. You will also find 5 public golfs within 15 minutes of the Villa, more than 20 on the island.
The Sea Life Park is a great place to visit with children. Dolphins, turtles, many fun marine creatures and a 300,000 gallons aquarium...
Don't miss the stunning beauty of Oahu, save some time to explore the East (Windward) coast. There is so much to see. You may want to just drive along the coast and enjoy the spectacular views. Stop to enjoy the beach parks, the hidden water falls or visit some unique landmarks such as the Valley of the Temples with its Japanese Buddhist Byodo In Temple. Another popular stop is the Polynesian Cultural Center with its great shows and 7 model villages on 42 acres. It will give you a taste of life as it used to be in Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, Tahiti and the Marquesas.
A bit further is the North Shore, the big surf Mecca where the best surfers of the world meet every winter to compete on the toughest spots. The surf regularly reaches highs of 20+ feet (6+ meters) in the winter, not for beginners! Experience the laid-back surf town of Haleiwa which probably has not changed much since the 70's. The Waimea Valley and Adventure Park features 36 botanical gardens with 6,000 species of rare plants, waterfalls with a fresh water pool, a river you can kayak on and horseback riding. Try the waves at Waimea Bay, but hang on to your bathing suit!
The excitement of Honolulu, with its incredible shopping and nightlife are only 30 minutes away. Honolulu is an amazingly pleasant big city, a nice mix of the new and the old. The Ala Moana Center is the world's largest open air shopping mall. An easy thing to do is park here and take the shuttle bus to Waikiki, where you will find all the best brands: Armani, Cartier, Dior, Fendi, Gucci, Vuitton... Finally, if you like your adrenalin level high, you will find jetskis, parasailing, helicopter rides and even sailplane tours... and if money is no object, why not rent a sports car for a day or two?
