Prepare to be amazed. Oahu is one of the best-kept secrets of Hawaii. Because Honolulu and Waikiki are so well-known, few people are aware of how beautiful and unspoiled the rest of the Island really is.

No other Hawaiian island has more or better beaches than Oahu. Some scenes may seem familiar to you. It may be because you have seen them in Magnum P.I., Hawaii Five-O, or Jurassic Park.

The nature and scenery are wonderful. Oahu has:
  • tens of miles of beautiful sand beaches, many of them totally deserted,
  • 56 beach parks, most of which with restrooms, picnic areas, public telephones and life guards,
  • uninhabited islands, some of which you can visit and reach by boat or on foot (the Mokuluas, Rabbit Island, Chinaman's Hat, Goat Island, Turtle Island...),
  • hidden waterfalls, some with freshwater pools (Sacred Falls, Manoa, Maunawili, Waimea...),
  • natural reserves with green sea turtles and rare birds,
  • magnificent hiking trails,
  • aquaculture ponds, some of which will sell you fresh jumbo shrimp right out of the water,
  • the best surf spots in the world (Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and the famous Banzai Pipeline).

The Eastside of the island (also called Windward) is lush and green with a dramatic background, the Koolau Mountains and a succession of protected bays with gorgeous beaches.

The weather is incredible. Lanikai is located on the Eastside of the island and is cooler than the Western, drier side, with average temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit all year long (21 to 26 degrees Celsius). As on most tropical islands, you may get a few short rain showers everyday. The rainfall can be quite heavy and sudden, but this is quite rare.

It is easy to get there. Many US and international cities have direct flights to Honolulu. Its International Airport is served by these major airlines : Air Canada, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airlines, American, Asiana, Continental, Delta, Hawaiian, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Northwest, Qantas, TWA and United. Once you exit the airport, getting to the Villa Soluna is an easy 30 minute drive. The Pali Highway will take you through the spectacular Koolau Mountains all the way to the ocean on the other side.

It is recommended to rent a car to take advantage of everything that Hawaii has to offer. Rates are reasonable, usually starting at $20 a day depending on the size of the car and duration.
