Kailua Beach is located on the beautiful and cooler East side of the island. This 5 mile-long stretch was voted best beach in the entire USA in 1998. It is a postcard! White powder-soft sand, turquoise water and coco palms.

At the opposite end of the beach from the Villa, is a 35 acres public park with amenities for picnic, a freshwater stream and pine trees for the shade. Popular things to do here include canoeing, windsurfing and kite surfing. Many will rent a canoe and paddle to the nearby Mokulua Islands for a picnic.

One mile south of Kailua is Lanikai Beach. Lanikai too was voted best beach in the USA, in 1996. A great place for snorkeling or just letting the sun soak in.

The beaches of Kailua and Lanikai are quite unique in Hawaii because they are protected by an off-shore coral reef. This means that the surf is gentle most of the time and there is no or very little current. They are not covered by lava rocks either contrary to most beaches in Hawaii. Lanikai in particular is amongst the safest for swimming and children.

There are many more fun beaches within a short driving distance. Makapuu Beach, at 15 minutes, is great for its waves, this is a good place but only for very experienced surfers and bodysurfers. Hanauma Bay, at 20 minutes, is very famous for its snorkeling. And of course, there is Waikiki, at 30 minutes, is exactly what you would expect, very crowded but a lot of fun too.
